Wales government (UK) signs MoU with Telangana state to upgrade students skillset and improve employability
Telangana government has signed an historic agreement, i.e., a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Welsh Government (UK) and the Telangana State Council of Higher Education on November 11, 2020. This agreement will boost ties for bilateral research, entrepreneurship, innovation, employability and education exchange between Wales and the Telangana state. The youth of Telangana will benefit from this partnership by improving their employability and skills. On this special milestone, P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, The Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Telangana was present; however, Kristy William, The Hon’ble Education Minister of Wales, joined online. Other distinguished attendees include Wickham OBE, Director India, British Council and T. Papi Reddy, Chairman of Telangana State Higher Education Council (TSHEC).
With this MoU agreement, Global Wales (partnership between Universities Wales, Welsh Government, British Council Wales & HEFCW, for all Welsh unis) aims to build international partnerships between governments and universities and has been working extensively with organisations across Telangana, in recognition of shared strengths in domains such as artificial intelligence, innovation and entrepreneurship, amongst a range of other specialist fields.
According to a news release from Universities Wales portal, the agreement covers partnership across the following areas:
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation:
- University partnerships, sustainability and opportunities for staff and student mobility
- Employability and Skills
- Technology and management
- Transnational Education (TNE), quality assurance and comparability of qualifications.
Ms Kirsty Williams MS, Education Minister of Wales, Government of Wales, said “I am delighted to sign this Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation in Higher Education between the Welsh Government and the Government of Telangana. This is a hugely important symbol of our developing and deepening relationship. I know that our Universities, and HE sector, more widely, are keen to further develop partnerships in Telangana in key areas of interest and research strength. Through this MoU, and our strategic partnership with Global Wales, I see real scope for developing research partnerships, student and academic exchanges that will mutually benefit both Wales and Telangana, now and in future.”
Smt. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, The Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Telangana, said “I am delighted by the MoU between the Governments. The MoU will improve students’ access to quality education, skills and employability, by providing them with the right research and entrepreneurial skills. The programmes planned under the MoU will ensure long-lasting academic and social linkages with the higher education institutions in Wales. Through this initiative, I am confident that this bilateral partnership will be able to foster a brighter future for Telangana’s students.”
Prof. Iwan Davies, Chair, Global Wales, said “On behalf of Global Wales and all the Welsh universities, I’m delighted to witness the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, which acknowledges the many synergies across our respective Higher Education sectors, and commits to deepening our relationship in the coming years. We look forward to working with colleagues in Welsh Government and the Government of Telangana, in addition to our universities themselves, to take forward workstreams from this MoU to further develop collaboration in the field of higher education between our two countries.”
