India reports less than 50K daily new COVID-19 cases for the fifth successive day - November 12, 2020
India reports less than 50,000 daily new cases for the successive fifth day. The total number of persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours stand at 47,905. There is also a trend of daily new recoveries exceeding daily new cases and this has been going on for the 40th day with 52,718 new recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours. It is also to be noted that India’s active COVID-19 cases amount to 4,89,294.
The recovery rate has also been much improved thanks to the recoveries outnumbering new cases in the recent times. The recovery rate currently stands at 92.89% and the aggregate recoveries as of today are 80,66,501. Thus, the difference between recovered cases and active ones stands at 75,77,207.
Maharashtra leads in maximum number of single day recoveries with 9,164 newly recovered cases. Delhi follows next with 7,264 people recovered and the third position is closely followed by Kerala which reports 2,252 new recoveries. It is observed that 78% of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 States/Union Territories (UTs).
On the active new cases front, Delhi continues to show another spike in new cases and reports very high tally, with 8,593 new cases. Kerala comes distant second with 7,007 active new cases and Maharashtra emerges next with 4,907 cases.
550 case fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours. The Case Fatality Rate stands at 1.48% for today, which is one of the lowest globally, according to Ministry of Health and Family Affairs. Of these new deaths, ten States/UTs account for 80%, Maharashtra accounted for 22.7% share with 125 fatalities. Delhi and West Bengal follow with 85 and 49 new deaths, respectively.
According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 11 lakh 93 thousand tests were conducted during the last 24 hours.
Adar Poonwalla, CEO, Serum Institute of India, commented during an interview with CNN in September that the world’s entire population will not be immunized until 2024. He also tweeted a recent Bloomberg article to caution people about long-term effects of COVID-19 and wrote, “Now there are clear reports of the terrible long-term effects of COVID19, so don’t feel you can get it once and that will be the end of it. You can get reinfected in a few months, so please continue taking precautions”.
